Maths problem

 Kia ora

We have been learning about how to use Compatible Numbers. Compatible Numbers are any two numbers which add together to make a Tidy Number
(a  number which ends in zero).  We had to choose two Compatible Numbers and another number. Then we had to think of a word problem which used our numbers and give the problem to a buddy to solve. Mrs Ogle, our maths facilitator, said this is called 'posing problems'.

My problem was Heidi has 74 pink teddies, 3 blue teddies and 56 yellow teddies. How many teddies does she have
?The answer was 133. How I did it was that I did 74+56=130. Then I did + 3, and the answer was 133.

Day's and Months of the year

Hello everyone,

I have just finished doing a fun activity. It was all about the day and months of the year. I did this activity on a slide show and it was very enjoyable. I also wrote down the days and the months in Te Reo Maori as well as English. What I found hard was finding the days and months in Te Reo Maori. What I found easy was writing down the days and months in English. What I learnt was finding out new words in Te Reo Maori. You can see my slide show below my text.

Measurement time

Hello everyone,

I have done a hand on the clock task for me to do independently. I have really enjoyed this activity because it is so much fun and easy to learn. What I found hard was adding up the numbers on the clock to see what the time was. What I found easy was getting to know what hand was the minute and what hand was the hour. I did this task on a Google Slide. You can see my work below.

Mixed ability Maths

Mixed ability Maths

Hello bloggers,

This term we have been doing a different sort of maths. Mixed ability Maths. We also have a mixed- ability maths group so we can work together and solve the maths problem together. We also get to write what you think the answer is and you need to show the others in our group how you can work it out.  We can see and learn the other person's strategies and see if they got their answer right.

I think that mixed ability is a very good way for us to work our maths problems. If somebody in your group needs help to work the problem out you don't need to stand up and go and waste their time while they are waiting for you to and help them if you are helping someone else to work out there problem too.  Now the person next to you can help you out with the problem.

I feel like mixed ability maths is really good for your brain because you can get better, and better, and better, until you get to a high school level.

I enjoy it because it is a lot of fun and it keeps our brains working and gets our maths to a new level.

Vaseline Saucers

The day before pet day we made Vaseline Saucers. A Vaseline Saucer is something that has even flowers around it. It is called symmetrical. Symmetrical means that one side is the same as the other side, like a mirror of your reflection of your face. My Vaseline Saucer is very beautiful. I used flower petals. Here is a photo of my Vaseline Saucer.

ASB getwise

On Wednesday we had Marlon from ASB Get wise talking to us about saving our money,
spending money on needs not wants and using invisible money ie eftpos.
I have made a google draw to show what I have learnt. I liked learning about money.
